Thailand is gearing up for the special occasion of HRH Princess Sirindhorn's Fifth Cycle (60th) birthday. That means that in addition to the normal yellow and blue flags for Their Majesties the King and Queen respectively, everyone is flying HRH the Princess' purple flag too.

We are welcome and encouraged to wear purple as we feel like this year. That's fine. I like purple, and actually have several purple ties that I wear to school whenever I feel like cheating on the colors of the day (usually on Thursday... Orange day).
Last week at school, each teacher was presented with a lapel pin in honor of HRH's birthday. The pin is purple, of course, and bears her monogram, and the Thai numeral 60. We will wear these at graduation, and at other special occasions throughout the year.
