South Africa 2011

Stellenbosch:

In the summer of 2011, I traveled to Stellenbosch, South Africa to study at Stellenbosch University. Stellenbosch is located 35km from Cape Town in the Western Cape region of South Africa. I was there for two months in the southern winter, and avoided one of the hottest Texas summers on record!

I took part in the Stellenboch University winter school program, which had been bringing international students to Stellenbosch for the past eleven years. Over the summer I took three classes for six credits to transfer back to Baylor. The first was a South African History class, which includes lectures on South African history and politics, as well as discussions on Apartheid and reconciliation. The next was a Bio-Diversity of southern Africa class, and the third was about Apartheid and after in literature and film.

I also got a chance to visit some important sites and cities throughout South Africa while I was there. I spent some time in Cape Town, Robben Island, Cape Point, Swellendam, and the world famous South African Garden Route! I also got to see some world famous African penguins and pet a baby cheetah, which was pretty cool.

You can read about my time in South Africa here on this blog by looking through the archive beginning here in 2011.
