HAPPY 4th OF JULY
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Happy 4th, everybody!
In the past, I've spent Independence Day in South Africa and in Thailand. This year, I'm in Vietnam!
We are in Nha Trang now, a sunny seaside resort town in southern Vietnam, about halfway between Da Nang and Saigon. My blog is about a week behind, and I'm working hard to catch up, but since today's a special day, it deserves a special post.
So, what is there to do for the 4th of July in a small seaside town in Vietnam? Why, go out for lunch at Texas Chicken, of course!
Texas Chicken is actually Church's Chicken, but rebranded internationally because everybody loves Texas. In fact, whenever someone asks me where I'm from, I usually say I'm from Texas. That seems to go over well, especially in Vietnam. We splurged for a meal that costs about double what we normally pay for a day: two big fried chicken combos with soda and "freedom fries".
We've been eating mostly street food, so it's nice to go to a fancy shopping mall and splurge on lunch, especially for a holiday. I miss the barbecue, baseball, parade, and fireworks, but it's good to celebrate in my own little way. You have to make your holidays special while you are abroad. It may not be a big, exciting celebration, but it sure was nice.
