This weekend is Songkran, the celebration of the traditional Thai new year. It started out as a serious holiday involving water sprinkled in blessing, but recently has become something much more elaborate. In the last few decades, Songkran (celebrated during the hottest part of the year) has turned into a giant country-wide water fight free-for-all! I'm not in Thailand this year during the celebration, but I definitely don't want to miss it next year.
Of course, it's not all about fun and games. It's also a time to return home to spend time with family and visit the temple to make merit for the coming year.
Happy Songkran 2014 to all! Happy New Year for the
third time!
