A few days before Christmas, Pinky and I went on a walk through downtown to admire all the wonderful light displays, or "illuminations", as they are known in this part of the world. We grabbed a pair of Christmas Tree Frappuccinos from Starbucks at Emuartier and began our tour.
I think one of the things that surprised me the most when I first moved to Thailand was just how Christmassy Bangkok can feel. As an expat, you begin to make your own traditions to make the holidays special.
Emquartier, one of the newer malls in the "EM District" at Phrompong BTS Station always has one of the most festive setups, and this year did not disappoint! They had a huge two-story polar bear, tons of blue and white lights, and lots of energetic Christmas carols on full blast.
This year the Christmas theme for Siam Paragon shopping mall is "Christmas in the Wizarding World"... it's a Harry Potter theme!
But what made this Christmas the most special was a visit from my mom and brother!
They were here for a little over a week, and it was so nice to have them visit me during the holidays! I've been abroad for the past five years, and the thing I probably miss the most is spending Christmas with my family. We had an early Christmas, and they got to experience the beautiful lights and relatively cooler weather (60s-70s) of Bangkok in the wintertime!
My office is decorated with the tiny wintery legos we found in a cabinet.
And even the office building across from my apartment is decorated in is own humble way.
So from Bangkok to wherever you may be, have a very HAPPY CHRISTMAS!
