I'm so happy that my mom visited me here in Thailand this year!
We had two full weeks packed with absolute adventure.
On the very first day, Mom went on my tour of Talad Noi and visited Bangkok's newest mega mall
We explored an ancient Buddhist temple in the far north of the country
And we spent two days hanging out with elephants while making a difference towards conservation efforts in Thailand (we also hung out with cats)
We visited a royal botanical garden
And checked off one of my bucket list items by attending the Yi Peng Lantern Festival, an ancient Lanna cultural festival that quite literally went up in smoke while we were there
Before leaving Chiang Mai, we visited a Buddhist monastery made out of pure silver
Back in Bangkok, we dined at perhaps the world's most famous street food restaurant
We flew into Hanoi, Vietnam after I solved a stressful visa issue
In Hanoi, I took Mom to experience egg coffee and the restaurant where Anthony Bourdain treated President Obama to dinner
We explored an ancient Confucian university and the underground bunker where the North Vietnamese high command instructed their forces from deep beneath an ancient imperial citadel
We went on a very special tour of Hanoi guided by two local college students, tried a new type of ice cream, and made some new friends
We spent two days at the legendary Ha Long Bay, where we underwent a difficult hike and encountered bad karaoke and monkeys
And before leaving Vietnam we attended one of the Red River Delta's very famous water puppet performances
Back in Bangkok, Mom explored the rich biodiversity of the region by attending one of my birdwatching tours, dined on the kingdom's freshest food at the national farmers market, and viewed the art of the legendary Banksy at his first Asian exhibition
I'm so grateful to have such an adventurous Mom!
I really don't think that I could have ever moved abroad and had the wonderful life that I have had if it hadn't been for the support and encouragement for my mother. Thanks for always looking out for me, supporting me, and encouraging me to follow my dreams!
Thanks for being my adventure companion and for traveling the world with me!
