Qatar Stopover

My flight back to Thailand from Waco was delayed.

When I finally boarded my flight at ACT (via stairs, and not even the good stairs, but the weird ones which came out of the actual plane and which I had to step up onto lugging my baggage, I might add), I was already tired and just ready to be back home in Thailand.

Alas, it was not to be so easy.

Due to a complicated aviation logistical mix-up well beyond my ability to influence or, in fact, to comprehend, my flight to Thailand was delayed.

I got to Dallas in plenty of time, and my next flight to Doha was going to leave on time as well, but my third flight back to Bangkok had been cancelled, and the next plane I was able to get on wasn't due to leave for a few days.

All's well that ends well, however! Qatar Airways ended up offering me a stay in Doha on their dime, and who am I to put off such an offer?

I was tired when I arrived near midnight in the Qatari capital, but a very polite guy on an airport cart picked me up at my gate and whisked me away to the in-terminal railway.

Soon, I was zipping my way towards baggage claim, where I picked up my luggage, hauled it through customs, and paused for a few minutes to pay for my Qatari two-year multiple-entry visa.

I checked in at the tour desk, where they were already expecting me, and within minutes a driver had picked me up and we were on our way towards the Radisson Blu.

I didn't necessarily expect or want to book a stopover on my way back home, but if I'm going to be here, then I'm going to make the most of it!
