Africa!

Well, it's official! I've paid for the trip, I had my passport photos taken today for the visa, I got my guide book (Lonely Planet: South Africa, Lesotho, and Swaziland), all that's left is to get the airline tickets, which I am doing tomorrow (airfare is supposedly cheaper on Tuesday. We'll see!) I'll be leaving in less than a month to spend part of the summer doing my study abroad in Stellenbosch, South Africa (35km from Cape Town. That's twenty-ish miles I think. I can't wait! I decided to start this blog so that I could share my pictures more easily while I'm gone, and also to keep in touch with folks back home in Arlington. The best part is that I'll be gone through most of June and July, so I'll be missing the hottest parts of the summer in Texas, and enjoying the nicest months of winter in the southern hemisphere. More updates to follow!

  1. Hello, Michael Desrosiers
I am Alex N'Kiliwambo, gourmet of antiquities museums and antique artifacts markets in Africa, and Arabia. I have stumbled across blog of yours, and I am interested. I, myself used to live in Stellenbosch, and had a friend at the Stellenbosch University. The friend knew a professor well there, and perhaps he still teaches there. Did you know that it is one of the most well-known schools in that area for its exquisite campuses and wonderful programs. I suggest you check out a Frommer's Guide Book on the area (I find them very helpful) and try to find out as much as you can about Cape Town before you visit on your Holiday Studying Abroad trip. I find some interesting thing, on my digs, and tours, and, as you may know Africa's rich culture can be seen much though its archeology, and museums. Try to visit some, when you arrive on your trip. I hope you are preparing carefully. God seën jou, en veilig winde. Safe Winds, May God Bless You.

P.S. You are going to love it here.
When you arrive, it will be the chill in between seasons, so check the Television or News forecast before you come. Be prepared. Bring more supplies then you need... Well, see you later, as I hope to keep checking your interesting blog. Just don't keep it boring!

  2. Alex,

    Thank you for commenting!

I'm really looking forward to my trip, I'll be leaving in a little less than a month now! I'm going to take your advice and try to learn as much about Cape Town and Stellenbosch as I can. I'll bring the guide books with me too. I'll be in transit for over 30 hours, so I guess it will give me something to do during my long flights!

    Michael
