Black Lives Matter.
This doesn't mean that all lives don't matter.
If I say "save the rain forests", I don't mean that other forests don't matter. I just mean that rain forests are the specific forests that are under the greatest threat.
If I call the fire department to say "my house is burning down", the fire fighters don't respond "all houses matter" and then do nothing to save my home.
Today in the United States,Black Americans are disproportionately systematically disadvantaged, and are disproportionately targeted by the police. This must stop.
"Black lives matter" MEANS that "all lives matter". This isn't a race issue; this is a general justice issue. Nobody should be afraid of the police. Nobody should be disproportionately disadvantaged due to underlying societal prejudices.
Everyone deserves justice.
America is better than this.
Both of my grandfathers fought wars against fascism. I won't allow that to become meaningless.
I believe in America. I believe in what this beautiful country stands for and for everything that it should be.
