I've always enjoyed photography, but I've never really had a dedicated digital camera for my travel photography. I've shot a lot of 35mm film lately, but the vast majority of the photos on my blog are either taken on my iPhone or with my fiancée's Panasonic mirrorless, which is a really good camera.
I didn't want to have to keep borrowing Pinky's camera whenever I went on an adventure, though, so a couple of weeks ago I made the decision to purchase an old and very used Canon DSLR camera. Now, the camera body that I have is a Canon 500d, which came out in 2009, and was considered kind of old even when I first moved to Thailand. But here's the thing - digital camera bodies don't change nearly as much as lenses do. A good lens is worth way more than a good camera body! Sure, the sensor might not be as good in low light, and I will have to transfer photos using a cable instead of with wifi like on modern cameras. But the camera itself, which I got for just around $100 (it would have cost well over $1500 when new) works just fine, and with a few cheap, used kit lenses purchased off of the internet, I'm good to go!

I'll probably use my phone for most of my day-to-day adventures, but having a decend Canon camera will hopefully push me to be more creative in my travel photography! I haven't played around with it too much yet, but here are a few snapshots from around my neighborhood and from downtown. It just goes to show that DSLR cameras don't really age, and a 12 year-old camera body can take some great photos!
Here are some of the photos I've taken over a few walks with my new camera. I hope to keep practicing and continue improving!
