A Glimpse of the Temple

As we drove through the city on the way to my quarantine hotel, the towering spires of a brand-new Bangkok landmark caught my eye. I wish I had a better picture, but this was taken out the window of a van from the highway.

When it is finished, the Bangkok Thailand Temple will be the 176th temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Announced in 2015 with a groundbreaking ceremony in 2019, the temple is expected to be completed in 2023, though I imagine there may be some delays due to the pandemic.

This will be the first Mormon temple in Southeast Asia. While non-Mormons are not permitted inside the LDS temples, they usually hold an open house and public tour to people of all faiths in the weeks before the temple is officially consecrated. These special tours are the only times that non-Mormons are permitted inside. I've never had the chance to look inside a Mormon temple, and I'll be looking forward to the announcement.
