Thailand has the most interesting and unique potato chips of anywhere I have ever been! Every few months, the local 7-Eleven comes out with some very special exclusive flavor of chip that I never could have imagined.
For example:
and the oddest of all (in my opinion), "cooling sensation" ice lemon and melon bingsu chips
...and all of these are just Lay's!
Well, Lay's has come out with some brand-new potato chip flavors, which are only on the shelves for a short time. Of course, I had to give them a try!
These new flavors are: tomato ketchup, mayonnaise, and triple-flavor popcorn.
Heinz Tomato Ketchup
The collaborations that Lay's comes up with in Thailand absolutely delight me. I mean, who would have ever thought of creating ketchup-flavored chips? (Full disclosure, I actually just remembered that I tried tomato-flavored chips for the first time about ten years ago when I was studying in South Africa. It was weird then, and it's weird now, but somehow, I find them quite tasty).
Ketchup actually goes surprisingly well with potatoes.
Not bad!

Heinz Mayonnaise
As weird as it sounds, mayo chips are not bad at all! They taste a bit rich, and a little too sweet (if they were a tiny bit less sweet, they might get a slightly higher rating).
Overall, the creaminess of mayonnaise and the thick richness of potato do compliment each other, but it's almost too much.

3-in-1 Popcorn Chips
This one reminds me of Christmas! Growing up, my Grandma would give us one of those big tins of 3-flavored popcorn for Christmastime every year. It might seem weird at first, but potato and corn are both pretty starchy and not all that different when you really think about it. A potato chip is kind of like a salty, flat piece of popcorn (ok, not really, but you know what I mean, right?).
This mix might seem strange on the outset, and maybe it's my nostalgia, but I really can't complain. I actually really like it.
