The Summer Palace: 850nm (Infrared)

Photos shot on Kolari Pocket infrared camera with 850nm filter in Ayutthaya, Thailand

This week, I visited Ayutthaya Province. It's a fun and cheap getaway from the city - the train from Bangkok to Ayutthaya costs just 14 baht ($0.40) and takes about two hours. From there, it's just a 3 baht ($0.08) and 15-minute ticket to Bang Pa-In, where I visited the Bang Pa-In Summer Palace. I'll write a full post about the palace and visiting Ayutthaya later in the week, but for today, I'd like to share some of the infrared photos that I took!

It was a hot, bright, sunny day... perfect for shooting photos with my infrared camera!

temple buildings in infrared - a sunny day like this is especially good for infrared, as you need lots of harsh, bright light to get the typical dark sky and high-contrast images

a royal residence at Bang Pa-In Palace (the Summer Palace of King Rama V)

HM King Rama V was fond of Western architecture, and the buildings at Bang Pa-In Palace are influenced by those he had visited at the royal courts of Europe

another view of the observation tower - I love taking IR photos where there is lots of water, sky, and foliage

it's always bright and sunny in Ayutthaya, so it's a perfect place to shoot in Infrared... but it also gets incredibly hot, and there's not much shade to escape from the bright sun
