The other day, my wife and I were coming home from a late night out. She had just finished a long shift at the hospital, and I had finished teaching a long series of classes online.
As we walked down the quiet street we live on, we noticed the "mobile market" parked aways down the street. Deciding that we needed more veggies in our diet, we jogged up to the market truck to see what they were selling.
These trucks drive up and down the sois, or side streets, nearly every day. They are the very local and very traditional way of buying produce in Bangkok. Typically, these mobile markets drive to the local fresh market every morning to pick up local produce, then drive through the side streets of town on a semi-regular route selling their produce for a cheaper price than one could find at a local supermarket.
The market truck sells prepackaged bags of veggies for a very reasonable price. They have a sort of speaker system that they use to announce what they've got. The voice from the speaker as it drives down the street really upsets the local dogs, but the truck is such a great value, that it's worth it!
