The Third Week of School

I just finished my third week teaching! Today is Friday, and it's been a good week. I gave my first test, we celebrated Wai Kru, and I really feel like I'm starting to understand how things work around here.

This morning I broke my breakfast routine. I haven't been up to having a rice dish for breakfast; I like to start my day with some protein. I've been having a package of mixed nuts and a carton of Choco-Drink, but today I and a few of my colleagues decided to branch out and try one of the prepared and packaged Thai breakfasts available at the little store on campus. The truth is, I miss having a hot breakfast. Breakfast is my favorite meal, and I normally eat a big one every day back home. I ordered "American Breakfast" off a menu at a restaurant one time, but it turned out to be a slice of bread, a fried egg, and a hot dog. My friends here know about my love of breakfast, and I've been disappointed trying to find it at a restaurant so far. A little old lady who teaches English here has been worried about me; she asks me every morning what I had for breakfast. So today, I decided to try a real Thai breakfast, just like the other teachers and students eat. I got some kao mun gai.

Ok, so it's just chicken and rice. It was good though. The chicken was hot and crispy, and came with a little package of sweet and sour sauce to put over the dish. It seemed the most breakfasty of all the options. I'm still not sold on fried rice for breakfast. We'll see.

The week was long, but super busy. I'm glad it's the weekend again. I've been looking forward to it ever since Monday when we planned our beach trip. Tomorrow morning I'll be on my way to Koh Larn for the weekend. It's beautiful and sunny today for the first time this week. Hopefully the nice weather holds at least until we're back in Bangkok.
