The Mobile Market

Here's a little glimpse at a slice of daily Thai life.

While a lot of local businesses are suffering during the COVID-19 quarantine and lockdown, there's one that's booming: the local mobile market!

In the early morning, this truck drives slowly up and down the sois (small streets) of the neighborhood playing an announcement from a speaker. I imagine every neighborhood has a mobile market like this. It's a sort of truck that has been converted into a little shop. They sell things like fruit and vegetables, fresh eggs, and sticky rice in little packages from the back.

With so many people stuck at home in quarantine, this type of business must be doing really well right now! This is a very Thai sort of thing, and just one of those small things that make living here so interesting. Maybe the mobile market developed out of the old Thai floating market? I'm not 100% sure about my theory, but it certainly serves the same function, and it's cheaper and more convenient than the supermarket.
