Mooncake

It's time once again for the Mid-Autumn Festival, maybe my favorite Chinese cultural festival of the year. The Mid-Autumn Festival, or Mooncake Festival, falls during the autumn full moon, and is celebrated throughout Asia with beautiful and delicious mooncakes!

Mooncakes are especially popular in Thailand, where malls, restaurants, and hotels compete to design the most beautiful pastries.

I didn't find any sort of specialty or extra fancy mooncake this year. Instead, this year I decided to go more traditional with a classic mooncake from S&P, a popular Thai bakery and restaurant chain. You can even find their mooncakes packaged up for sale at the local 7-11.

This mooncake was very traditional - bean paste with seeds and a salted egg yolk. Mooncakes are really dense and filling, and you can only really enjoy a small piece of one before you feel full.

Sometimes I go out to hunt for special mooncakes, but this year it was nice to just stay in. I did go outside to look at the beautiful full moon, though.
