Instant Thanksgiving

Last year, I went all-out, ordering a very expensive Thanksgiving dinner set from Sunrise Taco here in Bangkok. It was amazing, but too expensive considering that there are just the two of us. This year, my wife and I decided to make it a little simpler.

We were able to find instant Stove Top turkey stuffing and a can of Waitrose's cranberry sauce earlier this week at Top's Supermarket down the road.

On Thanksgiving morning, we met up after my wife's night shift at Villa Supermarket in Ari, where we picked up some instant mashed potatoes, instant gravy, canned green beans, and sliced deli turkey (which was actually super hard to find in Bangkok).

To cap it all off, I got some packaged purple Japanese sweet potatoes at the local convenience store, which the staff microwaved for me.

It might not seem like much, and it's a far cry from the elaborate Thanksgiving dinners I sometimes have. However, there was something more special and meaningful about searching for and scrounging up all the components of a Thanksgiving dinner. I've always said that if you really want to celebrate your holidays abroad, it takes a lot more effort to create your traditions.

And finally, as luck would have it, there was one pumpkin pie sitting on the counter of the bakery at Villa. Only one. And we got it!

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
