My Cameras: 1970 Fujica 35 Compact

This post is third in a series about the cameras I use in my new film photography hobby.

Fujica
For Christmas, my lovely and awesome girlfriend bought me a 1970 Fujica 35 Compact from a Japanese secondhand store here in Bangkok. This camera is great! It doesn't have any automatic settings, so I have to adjust the aperture, ISO, and focus manually, which is a lot of fun. Shooting with this camera has forced me to think back to my high school photography class to remember the technical parts of photography. This has become my favorite camera to shoot on! It's heavy, sturdy, and works great - even though it's nearly 50 years-old!

I've tested this camera out with both color and black and white film. The color shots taken with the camera work best in lower light or slight shadow, but have a very unique film quality to them.

The fun part is trying to get all the settings right. There is no way to know for sure until I get the roll developed, so it really tests my memory of photography class and forces me to focus more on getting the photo just right.

Shooting with a fifty year-old camera though, seems to call for black and white film every so often.

I picked up two rolls of Ilford Delta 100 to bring back to the US with me on my annual visit. I'm looking forward to using my new camera some more while I'm back home!
